An Ideal Police Officer There are three requirements to being an ideal police officer. One, he must strive for excellence, if he does he will excel if he doesn't he will not. Two, an ideal police officer should keep in shape. Why, because to excel at his job he needs a strong healthy body. The third thing, and the one I think is the most important, is having an excellent character. An ideal police officer must have this in order for him to perform his job excellently. Although an ideal police officer is not perfect, for nobody is perfect, he should try his best, and here is how. An ideal police officer must have an excellent character. A good attitude is the first step to having a great character. A good attitude means to treat others like you want to be treated. It also means to be pleasant and nice to be around for example instead of being rough or hasty, be kind and patient, try to understand what the person you're helping needs. Another important step in possessing an excellent character is being faithful, for instance when a police officer testifies against someone, we should be able to trust what he says is true, but not so if the officer isn't faithful to tell the truth. Another part of being faithful is being dependable. He must carry out his duties to the best of his ability. A police officer should also be faithful to uphold the law meaning to obey it and arrest the people who disobey it. The last thing in having excellent character is being obedient. A police officer should obey commands cheerfully at all times, no questions asked. For example if an officer above him gives an order even if he doesn't understand, he should do it anyway and do it well. A police officer with a character like this would make a wonderful example for our children! It is also important that a police officer strives for excellence. The first thing he needs to do is gain knowledge about his job. How can he accomplish this? One thing a police officer can do is talk with his fellow officers about how they perform certain duties while on the job. When doing this he shouldn't be proud thinking that he knows better than they do, he should listen and try to learn from them. An ideal police officer should also attend conventions to increase his knowledge. He can read books about things he does when working like using fire arms, talking to children, and rescuing people. The next step in striving for excellence is realizing his errors and trying to fix them. To do this he needs to first gain knowledge about the problem by using the methods I just described to you. Once he has knowledge of the problem he can begin to fix it. If he is not good at something, for instance using fire arms he can practice shooting in his spare time, but whatever the problem is, and nobody is perfect, he should do all he can to fix it. An ideal police officer also needs to keep in great shape. Making sure you're healthy is critical if you want to stay in good shape. Therefore a police officer should eat healthy food, not to much junk food, and make sure he gets enough sleep. Exercise is also important if you want to stay fit. A police officer should make certain he is healthy in mind and body, but if he is having mental or physical health problems he should immediately see a physician. After he sees a doctor he should follow the doctors orders. He should learn about his problem and try his best to get back in shape. Another part of keeping fit is having self control. A police officer must be able to control his emotions, especially his temper. If he doesn't it can cause him physical and mental health problems. If a police officer does these things his mind and body will be ready to do everything that is expected of him. We have now determined that an ideal police officer ought to have an excellent character which is, having a good attitude, being faithful, and obedient. A police officer with a character like this will treat others like he wants to be treated, be pleasant, trustworthy, dependable, uphold the law, and obey commands. We have also decided that an ideal police officer must strive for excellence. To achieve this he must gain knowledge about the job, realize his errors, and try his best to fix them. An ideal police officer should also keep in great shape. He should eat healthy food, take care of his body, and see a doctor when necessary. Although he is not perfect, an ideal police officer is always striving to do his best. |
