CALIFORNIA
STATE LODGE EXPLORER GRANT PROGRAM The California State Lodge, (CAFOP), has a program found in no other FOP lodge. The Explorer Grant Program provides funds to Explorer Posts throughout our state. Every two years the CAFOP sends Grant Applications & notification letters to 530 law enforcement agencies in California. These include all Police and Sheriff Departments, Highway Patrol Stations, and many USBP and other law enforcement agencies. Not all law enforcement agencies in the state have an Explorer program, but every agency gets notified. The program is directed towards providing funds to assist youths in purchasing basic uniforms and equipment so they are able to participate in Post activities. Funds are also used to purchase specialized training equipment, pay Explorer Academy tuition, and to offset competition event costs. The CAFOP does not fund weapons, vehicles, protective vests and other items that are felt to be the responsibility of the affiliated agency. Since 1994 the CAFOP has disbursed a total of $1,162,125.00; reaching 315 Explorer Posts throughout the state. The current program, (2007-2008), disbursed $98,780.00 reaching 66 Explorer Posts. Each program results in numerous "first time" grants indicating more agencies are becoming aware of the FOP. There are many agencies that have received multiple grants over the 14 years the program has been in effect. The California State Lodge intends to keep this successful program in effect for many years to come. |
